Cornwall Scout Fellowship Safety Team

CSFST
This Fellowship was initially suggested as long ago as Kernow 97, and the idea was resurrected again during the Cornwall Centenary Camp in May 2007, but was again reaffirmed upon completion of the Sunrise Ceremony on 1st August 2007, and the fellowship was born - on the day that scouting was.

Why 'Safety' Team and not 'Security' Team. Well the term 'Safety' covers several aspects including Marshalling, Stewarding and First Aid, whereas the team Security only covers a small aspect of what the team is designed to do.

Our Scarf: Why Purple with an Orange Border ? Well Purple is the Nationally recongnised Scout Polo Shirt Colour, and the NSFST wear Purple Polos with their logo on, and Orange is the colour of the Hi Visability (Hi-Vis) Jacket we wear.

To join the 'Cornwall Scout Fellowship Safety Team'

The downloadable Application form should be completed and forwarded to:
Kelly Johnson, 1 Rose Cottage, Rame Cross, Penryn, TR10 9ED
With the form you should include a cheque for £10.00 as a joining fee (Cheques made payable to 'Cornwall Scout Fellowship Safety Team') This will cover the purchase of a scarf, a nametape an ID Card and also an intial years membership; thereafter an additional fee of £5.00 will be required. Please also include two passport sized colour photographs of yourself, one for inclusion on the ID Badge and one for retaining with the application records. A copy of your current CRB should also be attached. Full members will be 18+, Trainee members by negotiation.
The scarf, ID Card and the nametapes etc make up about 50% of the joining fee; but it might be that in the future we can use some of the residue money to provide HV Jackets or T-Shirts.

WHERE WE CAN ASSIST
We are available to attend District and County events, where a Safety, Security, Marshalling or First Aid presence is required. From Camps to one day events, we can provide a team of dedicated staff to aide and assist with the running of your event.

CSFST Diary Dates

31/07/09 - 08/08/09 - Wings Camp (Berkshire)

NEWS

Summer 2008 will be remembered by many in the team for the time spent at Poacher camp in Lincolnshire. The weather was fantastic – although a little too hot for some, and the atmosphere and experience was just brilliant. Having some very intelligent people in the team meant we even managed to hook ourselves up with a supply or electricity all week long! The mess tent was a hub of technology, even with wireless internet access! Many evenings were spent in The Tube, with early evening entertainment and a disco for the older campers. Of course the team’s dance moves were exhausted.

The 15-strong team came together to form Shift C – the Cornwall shift, covering days, evenings and nights. Of course the day shifts were the busiest, looking after 2000 scouts and guides, with an additional 4000 Rainbows and Beavers visiting over two days. The night shifts were reasonably quiet, but weren’t without their surprises in the form of rogue sleepwalkers and sneaky scouts trying their hand at midnight trampolining.

A fantastic week was had by all, and the team are anticipating a trip to Wings 09 in Berkshire this summer.

Poacher hasn’t been the only highlight for the CSFST. The county Beaver Day was a fantastic success, with the team setting up the event ground, providing first aid, marshalling and running event basis. In October, Kernow 24 saw members of the team testing their endurance while providing assistance through a 24 hour event of constant activities and play, with just one visit from the air ambulance.

During Spring 2008 the county Gang Show took place at Truro College, with assistance from the team for rehearsals and evening performances. Particular members were even promoted to managing the microphones and budding actors and actresses waiting in the wings.

The last eighteen months have been very successful for individuals on the team. Gold Duke of Edinburgh awards have been gained by two members, as well as a Queen’s Scout Award, complete with visits to the palace for those individuals. For one member, the residential section of the award was completed at Centenary Camp, and from then began an amazing journey joining the team.

The latest success of the team is the award of the Gilt Cross for Gallantry to the team Chairman, Mark Rosevear. Mark is the only active member in Scouting in Cornwall to receive this award. Mark is a member of the Coastguard Cliff Rescue Team, and received his award for his courageous actions during a dramatic rescue of four young people. We are all very proud of Mark.

The fellowship team have gratefully received £500 from the Scouting Trust this year, helping to purchase various equipment for the team, including tables and first aid supplies. Our thanks goes out to them.
