News from the Cornwall Contingent
World Scout Jamboree
74 Scouts and Explorers from Cornwall attended the Jamboree selection weekend at the end of January, with the hope of being one of the 36 lucky Scouts chosen to represent Cornwall at the 22nd World Scout Jamboree in Sweden.
Despite a cold weekend, the rain held off allowing the participants a chance to demonstrate their abilities and team working through a variety of challenges and activities.
The arduous task of selecting just 36 participants fell with the Leadership team, ably assisted by previous Jamboree Leaders and other adults keen to help support the unit.
The successful Scouts and Explorers have now been notified and will get together as a unit for the first time in early March. The experience of a lifetime really does start now for these young people. Over the next 18 months, there will be several training weekends where the unit will discover each other’s strengths and identify areas of development, preparing them for the Jamboree in August 2011.
Over the next 12 months, the unit will focus on fundraising; each participant is aiming to raise as much money as possible, to reduce the fee they pay to go to the Jamboree. There are ways that leaders and supporters of Scouting in Cornwall can help the unit with their fundraising efforts.
We have registered a justgiving website – www.justgiving.com/wsjkernow . This is a site where you can donate money to the Unit. You can also allow us to claim gift aid on your donations (if you are a UK tax payer) allowing the unit to benefit even more from your donation.
please inform us of your donation by emailing katy@wsjkernow.com and you will be added to our list.
