UPDATE - NOVEMBER 2009

"The experience of a lifetime"

The 22nd World Scout Jamboree will take place in Rinkaby, Sweden, between the 27th July and the 7th August 2011. Before the Jamboree starts, there will be UK Contingent get together in Copenhagen, and Home Hospitality following the Jamboree.  It will be an experience of a lifetime for all those lucky enough to be part of it, and it’s not too late!

How to get involved…

If you were born between the 25 July 1993 and 27 July 1997 then you are one of the lucky people who can attend the World Scout Jamboree as a participant. Jamboree Units are selected locally, and Cornwall is lucky enough to have been allocated a full unit of 36 Young people and 4 Leaders.

To find out more about the Jamboree you can look on various Scouting Websites

You can also ask your Explorer Scout or Scout Leader.

Your Troop or Unit may soon receive a visit from one of the four Jamboree Leaders.  They can tell you all about the Jamboree and how to get involved.  You can also request information by emailing the Leadership team on wsj@cornwallscouts.co.uk

It is the presentation we have been delivering around the county and may be useful to others to look at Click Here

News from the Cornwall Contingent

World Scout Jamboree

74 Scouts and Explorers from Cornwall attended the Jamboree selection weekend at the end of January, with the hope of being one of the 36 lucky Scouts chosen to represent Cornwall at the 22nd World Scout Jamboree in Sweden.

Despite a cold weekend, the rain held off allowing the participants a chance to demonstrate their abilities and team working through a variety of challenges and activities.

The arduous task of selecting just 36 participants fell with the Leadership team, ably assisted by previous Jamboree Leaders and other adults keen to help support the unit.

The successful Scouts and Explorers have now been notified and will get together as a unit for the first time in early March.  The experience of a lifetime really does start now for these young people.  Over the next 18 months, there will be several training weekends where the unit will discover each other’s strengths and identify areas of development, preparing them for the Jamboree in August 2011.

Over the next 12 months, the unit will focus on fundraising; each participant is aiming to raise as much money as possible, to reduce the fee they pay to go to the Jamboree.   There are ways that leaders and supporters of Scouting in Cornwall can help the unit with their fundraising efforts.

We have registered a justgiving website – www.justgiving.com/wsjkernow .  This is a site where you can donate money to the Unit.  You can also allow us to claim gift aid on your donations (if you are a UK tax payer) allowing the unit to benefit even more from your donation.

please inform us of your donation by emailing katy@wsjkernow.com and you will be added to our list.

To keep up to date with what the Unit is up to you can visit our website www.wsjkernow.com.  We’d love to hear from anyone who has a fundraising idea/opportunity for us.
